Baptist Manual Drilling

MZUZU, MALAWI — The SMART Centre Group announced that its vocational training programs in Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia have now graduated over 400 local artisans certified in low-cost manual well drilling and Rope pump manufacturing.

By teaching entrepreneurs how to build their own Baptist and Mzuzu drilling rigs using locally available pipe fittings and scrap steel, the program has catalyzed a vibrant self-supply water economy. Trained local drillers have completed over 3,500 shallow wells for smallholder farmers and village clusters, proving that local private-sector capacity can outpace traditional donor-driven charity models.
