Blue Barrel Biochar Water Treatment System (300 L/day)¶
Rainwater & Storage • Est. CapEx: Low-cost / Locally fabricated
Technical Overview¶
A medium-scale decentralized water treatment system built from a 200 L HDPE drum, integrating gravel roughing filtration, slow sand filtration, and biochar adsorption. Designed for community or institutional use in remote areas.
Key Specifications & Engineering Parameters¶
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Category | Rainwater & Storage |
| Capital Cost | Low-cost / Locally fabricated |
| Primary Mechanism | Gravity-fed water first passes through a gravel roughing filter to remove turbidity, then a slow sand filter for pathogen reduction via biological activity, and finally a biochar contactor for adsorption of chemical contaminants (pesticides, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals). An inlet float valve controls flow and maintains water levels. |
| Target Scale | Household / Village Cluster |
| Standard Lifespan | 10 - 20 Years |
