Primary Mechanism Terracotta clay mixed with rice husks is pressed into filter elements using a hydraulic press. After firing at ~850°C, the combustible material burns out, leaving fine pores. Colloidal silver is painted on the fired filter to inactivate pathogens. Laterite clay is optionally added for virus binding.
